WELCOME

Caroline Allen

President

Welcome to Warragul Theatre Company’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time!

When Christopher sets out to solve the mystery of a neighbour’s dog, his investigation takes him on a journey far beyond anything he expected. This moving and imaginative story invites us to see the world through his eyes.

At the helm of this production is director George Canady. Although George brings a wealth of directing experience, this is his first time directing a show for Warragul Theatre Company. We are delighted to welcome him and thank him for the care and creativity he has brought to the production. A special thank you also goes to Abby Peterson, assistant director, for her support throughout the journey. Our talented cast has devoted countless hours to rehearsals, and I thank them for the commitment and heart they bring to the stage. I would also like to recognise Adie Perry and her musical entourage for the original music heard throughout the show. Their talent adds another beautiful dimension to Christopher’s story.

Behind the scenes, our production team, stage management, crew, costume and props teams, marketing volunteers and everyone who has helped bring this show to life deserve our heartfelt thanks. We are also grateful to the West Gippsland Arts Centre for its continued support of community theatre.

Thank you for joining us. We hope you enjoy sharing Christopher’s remarkable journey.

Enjoy the show!

SYNOPSIS

15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain. He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured beyond the end of his road alone; he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is seven minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork.

Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is set in Swindon, London.

The play is split into Act 1 and Act 2 (with an interval).

DIRECTOR

George Canady

Inspired by The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, George’s vision doesn’t recreate real life — it invites you into how Christopher experiences it.

The stage is open, quiet, and exacting: a world of shapes, lines, and light that feel precise even when everything else doesn’t. Nothing shifts mechanically; the world already exists, waiting to be noticed. Space transforms through focus. A place matters because attention lands on it—because Christopher chooses it. Light, sound, and structure respond with clarity and pattern, not chaos. For actors, this is a world to discover, where detail is everything, and a single moment of understanding can feel like the entire universe clicking into place.

George brings nearly two decades of directing experience across Atlanta and Phoenix, with a passion for bold, actor-driven storytelling. His work spans intimate plays, musicals, and devised pieces, always grounded in emotional truth and imaginative staging.

Having previously directed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, George returns with a deep understanding of its unique theatrical language. With a background in both directing and technical theatre, he fosters a collaborative, detail-oriented rehearsal room where actors feel supported, challenged, and inspired to take risks.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Abbey Peterson

Abbey is thrilled to work with the WTC team once again on such a powerful story. Abbey started her performing arts journey at Warragul Youth Theatre in 2008 and continues to direct with the company and currently holds the position of President on the committee.

She has also completed a Bachelor’s in Drama from Deakin University, worked with Regional Arts Victoria as a Young Producer for Expressions Festival (2024), and currently works at the WGAC as the Audience Development Coordinator. Most recently, Abbey was Assistant Director for WTC’s The Wedding Singer (2025) and earlier this year was the director of WYT’s Diary of A Wimpy Kid: The Musical (2026).

Abbey enjoys getting to collaborate with so many creative people both in the cast and crew, and she is so grateful to have the opportunity to work with George and such an incredible team on such a heartfelt and meaningful story.

PLAYED BY RANSOM

Christopher’s best friend ‘Toby’ is played by Ransom the rat. Thank you to Ransom’s real owner Paul Wolovich for his work helping us make sure we could have a real ‘Toby’ on stage and for his assistance with the promotional photoshoot.

MAKING THE MUSIC

Lead composer Adie Perry worked closely with Curious Incident Director, George, to bring the production to life through music.

Twenty unique themes of music were written and recorded for use across the show, ranging from an overture to set the tone for the audience, to special pieces representing different locations in Christopher’s journey.

Community members were invited to be involved early in the production process. Those who wished to be involved were invited to select which pieces they would like to create. A range of composers of varying experience were involved, from the accomplished Yolette Stewart and Marc De’Cario, to first-time composers Harry Gee and Dominic Sanchez Smith.

In addition to these composers, Adie wrote music for the show, at times including musical ideas created by clients (Adie works as a Music Therapist. For example, Christopher’s safety music was derived from the tune a non-speaking client sings when they are feeling safe and happy in music therapy.
